A house above the cove
Lumera sits on the hillside above the cove, close enough to hear the water turn over the stones below. Fourteen rooms and suites, a restaurant open to the sea, a pool terrace, and gardens that smell of olive and citrus in the warmth of the afternoon.
It is run by one family, and it shows in the small things: the door held open, the bottle of wine remembered, the table kept for you a little longer. Refined, but with nothing to prove.

Saliso
Wood-fired Ligurian cooking, the sea at the table’s edge
Saliso looks straight out over the cove, and the kitchen takes its cues from what the day brings in: fish landed at the harbour that morning, vegetables and herbs cut from our own gardens, olive oil and lemons grown on the terraces below. Much of it meets the wood fire, which gives the cooking its quiet backbone — char on the langoustines, smoke threaded through a plate of summer greens, bread blistered at the edges.
The menu is short and changes with the season, leaning on the things Liguria does best and getting out of their way. As the afternoon softens, the terrace fills with low gold light, the air turns to salt and citrus, and dinner unfolds slowly over a bottle of something local while the water goes from blue to silver to dark.

The cove & coast
Below the hotel, a narrow path drops through the olives to the cove, a sheltered stretch of clear water and warm stone where the village has swum for generations. The coastline runs in both directions from here, a string of pastel harbours, terraced vineyards, and footpaths cut into the cliffs. The village itself is a few minutes up the lane, with its café, its church bell, and a handful of shops that close in the heat of the day.
Genoa airport is a little over an hour by road, and the coastal train brings you most of the way along the water. Tell us your train and we will be at the station to meet you, with the last short climb taken care of.
Rooms from €280 a night, with the season’s best dates going early. Write to us with your plans and we will hold something with the right view.
